In early winter, more than 50 mu (about 3.33 hectares) of cotton planted in Bajiao Village, Chatian Town, Fenghuang County have entered the harvest season. In the cotton planting base of the village, white cotton flowers cover the whole fields. In the past few days, villagers have been busy harvesting cotton in the fields.
The head of the base said that about 60 mu (4 hectares) of cotton was planted in the village. The cotton was planted in June this year and harvested in early October. The total yield is expected to reach about 5,000 kg.
At the beginning of this year, Bajiao villagers planted about 60 mu (4 hectares) of cotton on gentle slopes, wasteland and mountainous areas, which was managed by the village collective. And all profits earned belonged to the village collective.
Nearby villagers are also encouraged to work in the base, which achieves a win-win situation of increased industrial income and employment for villagers.
Now, there are more than ten villagers harvesting cotton at the base every day. The harvesting work is expected to be fully completed by mid-December. The harvested cotton will be delivered to the purchasing company, which solves the worries about cotton sales.
The head of the base said that after picked, cotton needs to be dried, packaged, and then transported to purchasing companies, so there is no need to worry about sales.
